Board Hires New Superindendent

Lake Local School District to hire Brett Yeagley as new Superintendent

The Lake Local School District Board of Education held a special meeting on Saturday, May 24, 2025 to hire Brett Yeagley as the new Superintendent effective August 1, 2025.

Yeagley has been the Superintendent at Canton Local School District since 2021. Yeagley plans to bring to Lake a leadership philosophy that centers around collaboration, accountability, and a focus on what is best for kids.

“Brett has demonstrated a relentless focus on students throughout his career and has delivered an unparallelled emphasis on leadership, communication and accountability. He is an active, visible leader that will continue to put our students first while always supporting our staff and families. His unique skillset will allow Lake to continue to thrive, while upholding the values that matter most to our community,” said Adam Doane, President of the Board of Education. “We are extremely excited to have Brett join the Blue Streak family and look forward to his leadership and partnership to continue the successful trajectory that Lake Local has been on.”

“I am incredibly excited to be joining Lake Local Schools,” Yeagley said. “Lake has a proud tradition of academic excellence, an outstanding arts program, and a history of athletic success. I can’t wait to meet the staff, students, and community members who make Lake such a special place. I’m extremely grateful to the Board of Education for this opportunity and look forward to working hard every day to serve and support the district. I want to sincerely thank the Canton Local community for the incredible support you’ve shown me and our schools. I’m so proud of what our students and staff have accomplished. I will always be grateful for the relationships, memories, and shared commitment to doing what’s best for kids.”

In May, Lake Local Superintendent Kevin Tobin announced his retirement. Tobin will continue in his current role until the end of July. The Board of Education conducted a search in partnership with the Stark County Educational Service Center, with guidance from Superintendent Joe Chaddock, to find their next Superintendent.

“I’m honored to follow Kevin Tobin, whose steady leadership and commitment to Lake Local Schools have left a lasting legacy,” said Yeagley.

In addition to his Superintendent role, Yeagley currently serves on the Aultman College Board of Directors. Prior to becoming Superintendent at Canton Local School District, Yeagley served as High School Principal at Minerva High School, Middle School Principal at Minerva Middle School and Assistant Principal at Marlington High School. Prior to his administrative roles, Yeagley taught Social Studies and was the Head Football Coach at Minerva High School.

Yeagley earned his bachelor’s degree in Middle Childhood Education from Malone University, followed by his Masters of Education from The American College of Education. He completed his Superintendents coursework at Concordia University.

Yeagley and his wife have one daughter, Callie. His wife, Christy, is currently a second-grade teacher at Minerva Elementary School and has been named the Principal at Malvern Elementary School for next school year.
