Community Information

Lake Local Schools is located midway between Akron and Canton in Lake Township in picturesque, rural, northern Stark County encompassing the close-knit communities of Uniontown and Hartville.

Included within Lake Local’s strategic plan is a core value to make our community richer by supporting citizenship and relationships, while a core objective is to promote partnerships. As a result, our students and staff are encouraged to participate in and support local events and happenings, and work with our neighbors to make a positive difference for education and the community.

    LAKE COMMUNITY LIBRARY

The Hartville Branch of the Stark County District Library opened in November 1960. It moved to share quarters with the Hartville Fire Department in 1977, then in October 2003, opened in its present location in the Lake Community Center, also housing Lake Middle/High School, and the Lake YMCA. With this move the branch was renamed the Lake Community Branch.

The library offers ongoing popular children's, teen, and adult programs in addition to providing books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, and reference materials to library patrons.

    FRIENDS OF LIBRARY

The Friends promote and support the Lake Community Library by making the library's resources, services, and needs known to the community.  The Friends conduct an annual used book sale fundraiser, read at AlterCare, and maintain an Alphabet Garden.  They also oversee a library and provide book bags to children of seasonal families employed at the Hartville Migrant Center, and volunteer in countless ways as needed at the local branch.

    LAKE TOWNSHIP CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The mission of the Lake Township Chamber of Commerce, serving Hartville, Uniontown, and Greentown, is to create a positive environment to promote business success and growth, while reflecting the community's values.

The Chamber provides referral and networking opportunities, community resources, educational seminars, tourism marketing, healthcare discounts, and workers' comp savings. Membership is a tax deductible expense.

    LAKE TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Lake Township Historical Society, founded in 1994, is an active organization that regularly stages special events highlighting the history and heritage of the Township. Past popular events have included a Barn Tour, Home Tours, an evening dinner in a local privately owned estate, and an event recalling Hartville's early ties to the Longaberger Basket Company.

The Society has converted the former Greentown Library located at 3300 Myers St. into a museum and meeting room. Their permanent collection includes farming, commercial, home, and military items, manuscripts, published material, photographs, audio visual materials, and period clothing. New exhibits are presented regularly.

LIONS CLUB (Hartville and Uniontown Chapters)

Both Hartville and Uniontown have Lions Club chapters that promote community service and projects. In addition, the Hartville organization produces a Hartville phone book and participates in downtown Hartville events, while the Uniontown chapter sponsors a Student of the Month recognition program, and holds a popular annual August festival on the grounds of the Hartville MarketPlace. The Hartville Lion's Club, Uniontown Lion's Club in conjunction with the Lake Local Board of Education, sponsors a recogntion program October - April each year to recognize outstanding students, teachers, classified staff, and volunteers within the school district.

  • Lake Academic Boosters

Lake Academic Boosters (LAB) has been in existence for over twenty years to promote educational excellence at Lake Local Schools by recognizing students for exemplary academic performance.  The primary emphasis of the academic booster club during the early years involved sponsoring academic recognition programs for students in the Lake Local School District from grades 5 through 12. During recent years, LAB expanded its role of supporting Lake scholars by issuing scholarships to Lake High School students. In addition, the Lake Academic Booster Club helps provide funding and support for student groups that primarily have an academic emphasis.

LAB will continue to recognize students for exemplary academic performance. From grade five through twelve certificates will be awarded to students during annual recognition programs. During high school, academic letters and pins will be provided during these programs. Eligibility for a Lake Academic Letter is determined by the Lake Middle / High School Counseling Office and is based on the student’s academic records as outlined in the student handbook.

Throughout the years the number of students recognized and the amount of scholarship dollars awarded by LAB has continually increased. During the spring of 2025, we recognized more than 850 Lake students for academic excellence, and nearly $20,000 in scholarships was raised for our graduating Lake High School Seniors using merit and economic need-based criteria.  LAB solicits financial support for these scholarships from community members, local business members, parents, and Lake staff members each school year.

The deadline for our current scholarship drive is March 13, 2026. The Lake Academic Booster Club is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
